ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE TEN YEARS OF THE AFPRC/APRC GOVERNMENT IN THE ROADS AND RELATED SECTORS AND THE PLANS FOR THE FUTURE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS Road infrastructure development constitutes the major thrust of the Department of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure Development with cross-cutting aspects affecting the transport sector in general.
ACHIEVEMENTS From 1994 to date, a lot has been achieved in the area of infrastructure development. The following projects are among the significant achievements:
The above roads constitute a total of 190km of paved or bituminized roads and 66km of improved gravel roads. The estimated cost is in excess of 290 million Dalasis. These projects are a very important contribution to the development of the productive sectors of tourism, fisheries and agriculture in addition to the facilitation of trade.
In addition to roads, very important landmark bridges have been built. Among the main ones are the following:
Another very important landmark achievement is the COASTAL PROTECTION PROJECT, which restored the lost beaches of The Gambia and saved the capital from being cut off from the Kombos * Coastal Protection Project D300 million NEW PROJECTS During the course of this year, and in the coming years, the following projects are expected to be implemented and/ or completed:
The above roads constitute a total of over 600km of paved or bituminized roads and will cost an estimated 3.89 Billion Dalasis |
